Up and running in a minute.
Until the Chrome Web Store listing is live, Leita installs from a folder.
- 1
Download and unzip
Keep the folder somewhere permanent; Chrome loads the extension from there.
- 2
Open chrome://extensions
In Edge use edge://extensions, in Brave brave://extensions; the steps are the same.
- 3
Turn on Developer mode
Top right corner.
- 4
Click Load unpacked and pick the folder
The card “Leita: find on page by meaning” appears.
- 5
Pick your key
A welcome page opens. Switch on Ctrl+F there, or keep Ctrl+Shift+F.
Using it
- A word on the page lights up everywhere it appears, like regular find.
- A question or a description lights up the passages that answer it.
- Enter next, Shift+Enter previous, Esc closes.
PDFs and files
PDFs work with Ctrl+Shift+F right away. For plain Ctrl+F in PDFs too, follow the one step the welcome page shows under the switch. For files opened from your disk, turn on Allow access to file URLs on the extension's details page.
Updating
Folder installs don't update by themselves. To move to a new version:
- Unzip the new download.
- Open the folder Chrome loads Leita from: on its card (“Leita: find on page by meaning”) in
chrome://extensions, choose Details and look under Source. - Copy everything from the new folder into that folder and choose Replace.
- Press the reload icon on the Leita card. Your settings are kept.
Never use Load unpacked again for an update: it adds a second copy with fresh settings. If that happened, remove the extra copy.
